WINNIPEG, CANADA - Opposition MPs in Ottawa don't like the fact that Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day is appointing retired cops and former jail guards to the National Parole Board. Who do they think government should be appointing to these tribunals, ex-cons? Good grief. The NPB decides the timing and conditions of release for inmates and has to assess their risks of re-offending. Out of 36 people appointed to the board since 2006, 23 are either retired police officers or former provincial and federal correctional staff. Read more.
