| New facility surprises officials |

MASSACHUSETTS - The state Department of Probation is funding a community corrections center, which is scheduled to open this summer at the former UNITE Labor building on State Road near the former Lincoln Park. The 12,000-square-foot facility, which is being renovated, will provide substance abuse treatment and offer job and life skills training, educational services such as GED classes, and drug and alcohol testing, according to Coria A. Holland, a spokeswoman for the Office of the Commissioner of Probation. She said there will be no needle exchanges at the facility. Local officials, though, were caught off guard and were unaware of the plans when contacted Monday. Joseph Michaud, chairman of the Select Board, said he found it troublesome that neither he nor Michael J. Gagne, the town’s executive administrator, had been informed. Read more.
