CONNECTICUT - The lack of simple identification is an impediment to inmates who have served their sentences, are leaving Connecticut prisons and are trying to integrate into society. Cashing a check, applying for a job or opening a bank account can be impossible without an acceptable ID. So the state Correction and Motor Vehicles departments have collaborated in devising a portable licensing system that allows inmates to leave prison with state-issued IDs — either a nondriver's license or a renewed driver's license.
