MISSISSIPPI - Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps has been selected to serve a one year term as vice-president of the Southern States Correctional Association. As vice-president, Commissioner Epps will be responsible for administrative duties and will serve on the Program Committee, and as chairperson of the Long-Range Planning Committee, Membership Committee and the David H. Williams Excellence of Service Award Committee. This vice-president position comes on the heels of being elected Treasurer for the American Correctional Association (ACA) in June. Contributing to his selection to the post is an extensive background in corrections dating back to 1982, military service in the Mississippi National Guard since 1984 that resulted in the rank of Lt. Colonel, and leadership in numerous professional organizations. A veteran corrections practitioner, with more than 25 years of service with the MDOC, Epps rose to hold the post of MDOC Commissioner in 2002. He was appointed Commissioner by former Governor Ronnie Musgrove August 30, 2002 and was reappointed to the post on January 13, 2004 by Governor Haley R. Barbour. Read more.
