WASHINGTON - A 27-year-old Shelton man escaped death in the Mason County Jail Tuesday morning as the man tried to hang himself in his jail cell. The man was being held for Escape from Community Custody, Burglary First Degree and Assault in the First Degree. He apparently tried to hang himself in his cell with a bed sheet shortly after learning a conviction on his assault charge would constitute a third strike, which would result in him serving a prison term of life without parole.
