| Discrimination real, but damage award cut |

NEW YORK - An upstate appellate court has affirmed a decision against the New York State Department of Correctional Services in a case brought by a lesbian corrections officer who charged she was subjected to unlawful discrimination and retaliation. Writing for a unanimous five-judge panel, Justice Robert Rose noted that Alicia Humig, the only female officer on her cellblock at an upstate prison, complained about being subjected to a hostile work environment and other discriminatory action based on her gender and sexual orientation.
