FLORIDA - An internal investigation has cleared Pinellas County jail staff of any wrongdoing in the death of an inmate. Dorothy Dian Palinchik appeared to be in good health when she was jailed in February for allegedly stealing a $9 sandwich. But she died two weeks later at a hospital after suffering from pneumonia and the notorious drug-resistant staph known as MRSA. The investigation report was released Thursday. It found that detention Sgt. Annette Perez-Ford ripped up and threw away a form that inmates submitted to have Palinchik moved -- for her sake and theirs. Perez-Ford was disciplined. The investigation noted that her action did not cause Palinchik's death. About two hours after the inmates gave their request, medical staff evaluated Palinchik and decided she needed to be hospitalized. Read more.
