Prison-born infants face harsh conditions

UGANDA - Hundreds of infants in various prisons countrywide are living in dire conditions, at times without basic needs like food, proper shelter and medical care, the latest report by the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative says.

Most of the affected children who are less than 18 months old are those who were born when their mothers had already been imprisoned for various crimes. Some of these mothers have been convicted and are serving their jail sentences while others are still on remand. Read more.
