NEW YORK - Department of Correctional Services Commissioner Brian Fischer awarded seven medals last month to employees for acts of bravery and courage in helping fellow citizens. The ninth annual Memorial Service and Medals Ceremony took place at the Department's Albany Training Academy. Among the Medal of Merit recipients were: Ö Stephen Chmielewski of Mid-State Correctional Facility and Rodney Pfendler of Marcy Correctional Facility, who helped pull a 67-year-old man out of a burning vehicle in the village of Holland Patent.
