| Prison assault task force formed |

CONNECTICUT - State House Speaker James Amann announced Thursday that he is creating a new task force to evaluate the health and safety of Connecticut's prison workers, following a recent series of assaults on [COs]. "I'm afraid we're going to wait until one of our corrections officers is murdered before we react," said Amann, a Democrat who is considering a run for governor in 2010. The state correctional officers union, which supports the task force, said it hopes lawmakers will examine issues such as staff-to-inmate ratios, the need to fill vacant positions and a behavior management program at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers that one officer said is insufficient.
