| Union boss: Cuts made facility unsafe |

OHIO - Inmates know staffing is down at Mansfield Correctional Institution. That leads to dangerous situations -- including a fight Thursday, according to an employees' union president. Listing three incidents in little more than a month as examples, including one he called a gang-related riot, Doug Mosier said, "This all ties in to all the cuts the governor made ... MANCI took a big cut." The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, however, said there is no correlation between the recent prison incidents and staffing levels. JoEllen Culp, a spokeswoman for the DRC's public information office, said, "Safety and security is our number one priority at our institutions and we believe our institutions are running in a safe and secure manner."
