Mental health courts considered

PENNSYLVANIA - Their sometimes bizarre behavior is often more a nuisance than a menace to people in the criminal justice system, but a lot of people with mental illness nevertheless end up behind bars. It's a problem nationwide, no less so in Bucks and Montgomery counties, where criminal justice officials are dealing with it, although in slightly different ways.

By the end of the year, Montgomery County expects to begin what is called a mental health court, a special court to deal specifically with the problems of criminal defendants who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Read more.
