OHIO - The Van Wert County Commissioners have voted to reject a fact finder's report from the State Employment Relations Board. The report, which was voted upon on July 22, was compiled by a conciliator to attempt to resolve the labor negotiations between the Van Wert County Sheriff's Department and the Fraternal Order of Police/Ohio Labor Council (OLC). The OLC is the union for the law enforcement officers working at the Van Wert County Corrections Facility. Hearings took place in June where both sides presented their positions on five key items ranging from wage increases to benefits for the 2008-2010 fiscal years. In the end, however, the commissioners rejected the report's findings because of the economic factors involved with two of the recommendations. Read more.
