UNITED STATES - Pressure is building on the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to do a better job of protecting correctional officers. After the stabbing death June 20 of U.S. Penitentiary Atwater officer Jose Rivera by two inmates with handmade weapons, the tide has been growing with pressure from Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, in Washington, D.C., then with the city councils of Merced, Atwater and Livingston passing resolutions. Read more.
