Disease rates high in Canadian prisons, report says
By Canadian Press
Published: 04/12/2004

A report on the health of inmates in federal prisons in Canada paints a grim picture of disease rates that vastly outstrip those in the general population.
Inmates appear to be in markedly poorer health, with significantly higher rates of chronic and infectious diseases and mental-health disorders, according to the report, published last week in a supplement to the Canadian Journal of Public Health. The report was done for Correctional Services Canada by Dr. Brent Moloughney, a specialist in public health and epidemiology.
