| Parolees to get ankle monitors |

HALIFAX, CANADA - The federal government will outfit a small group of the country's most dangerous offenders with high-tech devices to track them when they're out on parole, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said in announcing the pilot project Monday. The minister said a group of 30 high-risk inmates in Ontario will be equipped with the clunky ankle bracelets to monitor their movements once they're released from jail. "Corrections officers can monitor exactly the whereabouts of an offender at any given moment - these are very precise, satellite-driven devices," Day said in Halifax as he held up one of the black, circular gadgets.
