| Budget trumped by cash flow woes |

INDIANA - Porter County Council members left Monday's 2009 budget session scratching their heads after discussing the sheriff's budgetary dilemma. From now to the end of the year, the Sheriff's Department faces a $400,000 shortfall, Sheriff David Lain said. And so county leaders need to find a funding source to appropriate money. Council Attorney David Hollenbeck said the department's issue is a "cash problem, not an appropriation problem ... where are you going to find the cash to fund appropriations?" Read more.
