| OKDOC adopts new security plans |

OKLAHOMA - Officials say state prisons are now safer for staff and inmates. Improved technology and possible transfers could decrease the number of assaults. This comes just months after 2 inmates were killed and many others were hospitalized because of fighting. It's something that the Department of Corrections is always trying to improve, but because of the large number of assaults it's been in the public eye. And now even moving inmates out-of-state is an option. Three state prisons have been in lockdown because of a number of fights inside the walls. Now, the staff will feed inmates in smaller groups, and use 97 new state-of-the-art wands which are more sensitive to hidden metal. DOC Spokesperson Jerry Massie says it will improve safety. "They're not just in there to get killed, we don't want staff to get hurt in the middle of a meal. Inmates in the first part don't want to be in them middle of that, but you have a certain number that, that's what they're thinking about," Massie explained. Read more.
