| New laws further restrict sex offenders |

ILLINOIS - Convicted sex offenders will be barred from working as election judges or at home day-care centers after Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a series of bills Thursday aimed at keeping children safe. The election judge ban, which takes effect Jan. 1, was approved because schools often double as polling places. Another provision requires election authorities to cross-check election judges against the state's sex offender registry. A new law also bans sex offenders from operating, working or volunteering at home day-care businesses. Violators will face felony charges.Read more.
