| Fatal crash leads to seatbelt policy |

ALABAMA - Almost a month after a Dothan inmate died in a three-vehicle crash while he traveled in a Houston County Sheriff’s van, Sheriff Andy Hughes has created a new policy which could help protect county inmates. Hughes said the new policy started earlier this week, and would require inmates to wear a seat belt while deputies or corrections officers transport them in county vehicles. He also said an internal investigation by the Houston County Jail Commander Keith Reed, which could include any disciplinary action in the case, is still pending. Read more.
