TEXAS - Pro wrestler turned prison warden Art Crews doesn't anticipate using his famed "reverse neck breaker" on prisoners when the new Coastal Bend Detention Center opens, but wrestling has taught him lessons he will bring to the job.

"There is a lot of crowd psychology in wrestling, bringing the crowd up and bringing them down," Crews, 49, said. "There is also diversity and sociology involved. It's the same working with people in correctional facilities. You deal with diversity, different cultures, different adversarial groups. It's all about how you talk to people, how you deal with people."

Crews, a 6-foot-1-inch, 200-plus pound behemoth of a man, worked his way through the ranks in correctional facilities in Oregon and Louisiana, starting as an officer and moving up to captain. As warden of LCS Correction's private prison in Robstown, which is expected to open in October, he is in a new role -- chief executive officer -- head of administration, operations and oversight of a facility that is expected to house 2,500 prisoners.
