GEORGIA - As the halls at Macon state prison were just beginning to swell with inmates, the Georgia Department of Corrections stepped in and built a new streamlined facility. Warden William Terry expressed with a straight face, "This year we will reach about 60,000 inmates incarcerated in the state." A startling number as the Georgia prison system continues to grow. Macon State Prison is already near capacity with more than 1,500 inmates and predicts that will grow to 1,800 by end of October.
