VANCOUVER, CANADA - Provincial Court Judge Thomas Gove says a pilot community court project for offenders in Vancouver's downtown core will open Sept. 10. Gove said there will be a celebratory ribbon-cutting a few days earlier, presided over by Premier Gordon Campbell, Attorney-General Wally Oppal and Solicitor-General John van Dongen. Gove told The Vancouver Sun's editorial board Monday that problems renovating the old city remand centre had delayed the opening of the experimental court, which is modelled on inner-city institutions in the U.S. Gove has been instrumental in fighting to have the court opened and will be one of two judges sitting in it.
