| Sheriff looking for more officers |

FLORIDA - The Bay County Sheriff's Office is looking for a few good [officers]. The agency, which is taking over the jail in October, has hired 190 employees so far, county officials said Wednesday. All but 10 of those are existing or former employees with current jail manager, Tennessee-based Corrections Corporation of America, said Rick Anglin, Bay County's jail contract monitor. Sheriff Frank McKeithen still needs to fill 60 positions, most of which are correctional officer jobs, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Ruth Sasser said. The [COs] must have a high school diploma and a corrections officer certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcment. They will have a starting salary of $30,000 a year, up from $26,000 paid by Corrections Corporation of America, or CCA. "It's a large task to take over the jail in the time allotted," Sasser said. She added that the Sheriff's Office transition team is "highly motivated" and things are "moving along quite well." Read more.
