Proposed prison opposed

FLORIDA - Hundreds turned out Tuesday evening for a community meeting in opposition of plans to build a prison in Marion Oaks. It was standing room only in the 450-capacity auditorium at the Marion Oaks Community Center with the overflow crowd estimated at more than double the amount inside. Speakers were set up outside so everyone could hear what was being side during the meeting.

Throughout the nearly two-hour meeting the crowd, residents from Marion Oaks and surrounding subdivisions, spoke out loudly at times against the proposed facility. The meeting was organized by the handful of community leaders who were contacted individually by Commissioner Jim Payton and representatives from Corrections Corporation of America about the proposed prison.
