Sheriff's officials continued to search Monday for a Johnson County (Texas) Law Enforcement Center trusty who escaped from a work detail last week, a day before deputies arrested his mother, claiming that she is withholding information about his whereabouts. Benny Ray Pinson, 37, of Crowley walked away from an inmate roadside cleanup crew about 3:30 p.m. Thursday after saying he didn't feel well and wanted to return to a police vehicle at the site, a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said. Witnesses reported that a female driver picked up a person fitting Pinson's description near the work site at U.S. 67 west of Alvarado, the spokeswoman said. Pinson had been jailed since March on misdemeanor charges involving theft of a slot machine but now faces a felony escape charge, which is punishable by a seven- to 10-year sentence, according to the spokeswoman. Pinson's mother, Mary Linda Lynn, was arrested Friday by deputies on suspicion of hindering apprehension of a felon, Cpl. Pam Jetsel of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department said. Lynn, of Crowley, remained in the Johnson County corrections facility late Monday. The Alvarado Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and Constable Brian Warren are assisting Johnson County officers with the search, which includes use of a DPS helicopter with thermal imaging lenses. Search efforts center on Crowley as well as on other cities where Pinson has friends and relatives, Jetsel said. A news release from Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford says Pinson is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds and has blond hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt and orange pants. |
