New sheriff in town

NEVADA - The Lyon County Sheriff's Department has had several new officers join the department, and one of those officers is John Vandiver, who has been in the LCSO since November of 2005, but who just recently became a patrol deputy for the department. Vandiver began his service with the LCSO, and after completing his POST Training in May, began patrol training, riding with Lieutenant Bryan Veil in the Dayton, Silver Springs and Mason areas, and successfully completing each of four three-week phases of training required.

Vandiver was born in Yerington, but was raised in Gardnerville and Ely. After graduating from Douglas High School, where he competed in both wrestling and football, he worked in landscaping and construction. Read more.
