| Deputies ready to graduate peace officer academy |

NEVADA - After being hired as Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputies assigned to the Jail Division this summer, three deputies are ready to graduate from the POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) Category 3 (corrections) academy in about two weeks (entered July 28). The three, Alan King, Herberth Parada and Brian Smith, are spending eight weeks of training in the Category 3 POST academy (devoted for corrections officers). The entered POST on July 28. After they finish the eight weeks POST academy, they will continue with 45 days of in-house training in the jail, which is eventually required of all Jail deputies. Typically Jail deputies work there for a year or more before often transferring to the Patrol Division. The Jail staff also includes some non-sworn (not deputies) personnel. Read more.
