Court tells teens truth behind sentences

OHIO - Hands flew up in a small training room in the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center recently - each one belonging to a teenager wondering how the trouble they've gotten into may affect their lives later on.

"What if I get my record expunged?" one asked.

"How could a felony as a juvenile be used against me later?" questioned another. The questions were typical ones asked to those presenting information about how much prison time awaited offenders in the federal court system. And the answer they gave was simple: "The message is, whatever you do now does follow you," said Eric Corns, a supervisor in the pretrial services and probation department for the U.S. District Court in Toledo.Read more.
