| Book puts African prisons under spotlight |

SOUTH AFRICA - A book on the situation in African prisons has been launched in Cape Town. The book, "Human Rights in African Prisons", is edited by Jeremy Sarkin with contributions from a number of eminent African researchers. The book looks at prisons in Africa, and the high rates of confinement that have led to overcrowding, unsafe and squalid conditions amid a general lack of resources. Read more.
