300 female inmates relocated

TEXAS - About 300 female inmates are temporarily in Gatesville after the Carole S. Young Medical Complex in Texas City where they had been locked up was evacuated, said Michelle Lyons, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The move happened in the early morning hours Wednesday, she said.

The medical complex primarily serves as an infirmary, Lyons said, so many of the transferred prisoners have medical conditions. Also, the state has canceled weekend visitation at the Gatesville, Mountain View and Murray units and the Woodman State Jail in Gatesville, and the Hobby Unit and Marlin Facility in Marlin.
