FLORIDA - Walt McNeil, the Florida Department of Corrections secretary will visit the Polk Correctional Institution on Tuesday at 2 p.m. McNeil will discuss the role of the recently acquired Demilley Correctional Institution, which is slated to open late this year. Demilley, a former Department of Juvenile Justice facility, will be behind the Polk Correctional Institute and will house about 380 minimum- to medium-custody adult male inmates with sentences of three years or less to serve. Demilley will be the first transitional prison in Florida, preparing inmates for work release through an emphasis on programs such as substance-abuse treatment, education and re-entry skills.
