| Vehicles given to injured officers |

CANADA - Vernon Brideau and Barry Amos are in a totally different place from a year ago. Between August and September of 2007, the men, both correctional officers at the Atlantic Institution in Renous, suffered accidents — Brideau while ATVing, Amos while diving — that left them wheelchair-bound, with a long road to recovery. But after a concerted fundraising effort by friends, family and fellow corrections officers across Miramichi and the Maritimes, they now each have accessible vehicles, Brideau a pickup truck, Amos a white van, with mechanized ramps that allow them to stow their wheelchairs. "I'm touched by everything," Brideau said of the outpouring of community support when the vehicles were presented to him and Amos Friday at Fire Station No. 1 on Jane St. "They have done a lot."
