A female nurse was found dead at the state minimum security prison Thursday morning, prompting a lockdown of the facility while police investigated. Riverton, Wyo., Police Chief John Snell described the death of Tammy Watts, 39, at the Wyoming Honor Farm as "unexplained." He refused to elaborate but said her death was being investigated as a homicide. Watts, whose hometown was not immediately available, worked for a private firm that the state hires to provide medical services at prisons. Snell said that another prison employee reported the death at about 6:45 a.m. after finding the body inside a prison building. An autopsy was to be done to determine the cause of death, he said. Melinda Brazzale, state Corrections Department spokeswoman, said all inmates at the prison were accounted for and confined to their rooms. The prison houses 167 minimum security male inmates. The last death involving someone at the Honor Farm was an inmate who died of a heart attack on April 17, 1996. |
