| County seeks re-entry extension |

CALIFORNIA - A delegation of local officials will head to the Bay Area this week to request six more months to designate a site for a 500-bed state prison re-entry facility in Monterey County. County officials say they can't meet the current deadline - this Thursday - when the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation board of directors holds a meeting in Berkeley. The local officials, including Sheriff Mike Kanalakis and county Supervisor Fernando Armenta, will request a deadline extension in person, said Wayne Tanda, director of the county Resource Management Agency. The need for more time comes after a surprise decision by the Board of Supervisors last week to rule out building the facility anywhere within the city of Salinas. Read more.
