CCA drops site

FLORIDA - Following public backlash from nearby residents, Corrections Corporation of America has dropped any further pursuit of building a 2,000-bed prison in Marion Oaks. But the Nashville-based private prison firm still wants to build a prison in Marion County, at a site not yet revealed to the public.

Tuesday, CCA got an ally in the Marion County Commission, which voted 4-1 to send the Florida Division of Management Services a letter of support for a CCA prison in the county. The Division of Management Services will review bids from private prison firms and award a contract. Read more.
