Survey on felons voting
By The Associated Press
Published: 09/18/2008

SOUTH CAROLINA - The American Civil Liberties Union says a survey has found that local election officials do not know enough about allowing former felons to vote in South Carolina. The group and another organization, the South Carolina Progressive Network, which conducted the survey together, are calling for changes in state voting laws and more education.

State law allows people who have served their sentences to vote. The groups said the state should automatically restore voting rights when people leave prison. They also said they wanted the state Department of Corrections and the Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services to act as registration agencies.
