ARKANSAS - Privatization of Arkansas' prisons could get another go-around as lawmakers vent frustration with inmate overcrowding, despite the state's failed experiment with handing two facilities over to a private company. Legislators agreed Friday to study whether the state should again consider putting some prisons under private control and a legislator said he hopes to hold hearings on the issue soon. The idea faces resistance from prison officials wary of the problems that arose from the previous attempt at privatization. "We've got to look at another way. What we're doing is not working," said Rep. Johnny Hoyt, who co-sponsored an interim study proposal on privatization adopted by the Arkansas Legislative Council on Friday. Read more.
