| Community corrections meeting performance requirements |

KANSAS - The Community Corrections department serving the 11th Judicial District met all but one of its performance requirements mandated under the Kansas Community Corrections Act, established last year, according to a report submitted to the County Board of Commissioners during its meeting Tuesday. "We had a good year last year, when you look at our success numbers," said Tracy Harris, Community Corrections director. "I attribute that a lot to the training we've been provided, along with our new philosophy and some changes made in the program." The 11th District, which serves Crawford, Cherokee and Labette counties, dealt with 104 case files in Fiscal Year 2008, according to the report. Of those, 75 were deemed successfully closed, or 72 percent, compared to 66 percent the year before. And the number of offenders entering the Kansas prison system decreased, from 37 in F.Y. 2007 to 20 last year, the report said. Read more.
