| Study pinpoints drug abuse in county jails |

ARIZONA - A new study by Arizona researchers and commissioned by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors confirms extensive drug use by people booked into county jails. It also provides a new snapshot of just who is being jailed. Most who work in the Valley's enormous criminal-justice system - policymakers, police agencies, judges - are getting a first look at the Arizona State University report, "Arizona Arrestee Reporting Information Network Annual Adult Report 2007." County officials said the updated information will help authorities better understand the link between drug abuse and crime. It also should help authorities identify gaps in treatment and make decisions about issues ranging from drug-abuse treatment to law-enforcement efforts. Read more.
