| Corrections officer vying to unseat sheriff |

MICHIGAN - A Livingston County Sheriff's Department corrections officer is running for sheriff as a write-in candidate. In a fax to the Daily Press & Argus, Officer Ron Woodworth says Sheriff Bob Bezotte placed him on unpaid leave of absence because he is running against his boss. Bezotte confirmed Woodworth was placed on leave Monday under a state law that says if a person who "becomes a candidate for elective office within the unit of government ... in which he is employed, unless contrary to a collective bargaining agreement, the employer may require the person to request and take a leave of absence without pay when he complies with the candidacy filing requirements, or 60 days before any election relating to that position, whichever date is closer to the election."
