Pontiac may stay open

ILLINOIS - The state's top officials want to put the brakes on a lawsuit that could keep them from closing Pontiac prison. The lawsuit, filed by a several lawmakers and the state's largest employee union last month, alleges Gov. Rod Blagojevich already signed this year's budget into law and can't take money away from Pontiac to close the prison.

Closing the prison means the loss of 540 jobs, according to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union. But doing so could save the state $4 million a year, according to the Department of Corrections. Read more.
