| COs protest working conditions |

WISCONSIN - Correctional officers picketed outside the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution on Thursday to protest what they describe as dangerous working conditions caused by administrative "arrogance" and "incompetence." Terry Klumpyan, a union steward for Local 163 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, said inmate assaults on guards have not been properly investigated or reported in several instances in recent years. "We understand things do happen, but when they do happen (management) needs to take the proper steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. They're not doing it," said Klumpyan, who helped organized a similar protest in March 2006. "We're back here again because all the promises they made us two years ago they haven't fulfilled, and the attacks on our officers continue." Read more.
