| Aboriginal corrections leader appointed |

CANADA - A community leader from the Samson Cree Nation has been appointed to a national commission on aboriginal corrections. Roy Louis was selected in June. “I have been involved in doing work for corrections since 1990,” said Louis. “From bringing Pesakestew to Hobbema that is now in it’s 11th year of operation. I was chairmen of the community advisor committee there, for five years. I am just a member now. So I have a pretty good appreciation of corrections.” Last year, the Correctional Service of Canada commissioned a review of the department and a review panel delivered a report with recommended actions that should be taken. Since his appointment, it didn’t take long for Louis to dive right into the work and begin examining the issues. Read more.
