MISSISSIPPI - Harrison County must reduce the number of inmates at the jail on a long-term basis if it wants to house state inmates and receive money for it, Sheriff Melvin Brisolara told the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday. The two main issues are the number of people arrested for misdemeanors and the length of time it takes to get to trial, he said. Brisolara said everyone will have to help come up with a solution: justice court and municipal judges, cities and the county. "It can be resolved if everybody does their part," he said. "We've got to do something to get their attention. We've got to start locking people up because they need to be locked up, not just because we're mad at them, which is what's been happening."
