SOUTH CAROLINA - The Palmetto Unified School District, which provides educational opportunities for the state’s inmates, has selected Caren Rose as its 2008 Teacher of the Year, a Department of Corrections news release said. Rose is an office skills instructor at Sara A. Babb High School at Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison for women in Columbia. She has taught there 22 years, the release said. “We need to provide skills to these students so that when they’re released they’ll have something to fall back on,” Rose said. Read more.
