Inmates to pay $10 medical screening fee

TEXAS - Crime doesn't pay. But in Dallas County, criminals will. Dallas County commissioners are expected Tuesday morning to approve a new fee for everyone being booked into the Lew Sterrett Justice Center -- a $10 processing fee to help pay for the cost of conducting their medical pre-screening.

Every inmate who is booked into the jail is screened for medical issues. During their screening, officers have to stand guard over the inmates. This fee, which the Sheriff's Department is asking for, will help offset those costs. Read more.
