CANADA - Millhaven penitentiary has restored visits and movement for more than 340 inmates who were confined to their cells after fears that weapons were circulating in a part of the maximum-security federal prison in Bath. "We have found at least three weapons and a variety of other materials that could be modified to be weapons," said Holly Knowles of Corrections Canada. "We've also segregated four inmates who are believed to have some involvement in the weapons." Last week, prison managers ordered a lockdown of inmates in the assessment unit to allow a thorough search. During a lockdown, visits are cancelled and other inmate activities suspended. Offenders sentenced to federal prison terms in Ontario are processed at Millhaven's assessment unit before they are assigned to a penitentiary. Inmates in the assessment unit do not have any contact with prisoners in the maximum-security unit. |
