Inspired inmate to donate organs

INDIA - The case of 15-year-old Hithendran, whose parents donated his organs after he was declared brain dead last month, is proving inspirational. R Chandrasekar, a 59-year-old inmate of the Madurai prison, moved by the example set by Hithendran’s parents, has written to the state’s director-general of police, prisons, seeking permission to donate his organs after his death.

Chandrasekar, in his letter, said he expected to die within two or three years due to various health problems related to ageing. "I heard that Hithendran’s parents donated one of his organs to an ailing nine-year-old girl at a corporate hospital in Chennai and have planned a similar donation after my death," he said.
