| Union claims workers unfairly blamed |

CANADA - Ashley Smith committed suicide in her cell at the Grand Valley Institution in Kitchener last year. Three [officers] - two of them from Hamilton - and a supervisor were fired and charged with criminal negligence. The union is releasing a report today that details the New Brunswick woman's troubled years in custody. It also points to what it describes as correctional Services of Canada's failure to deal with an extremely unstable inmate. Read more.
